Solar PV cost and grant in Ireland
A practical guide to solar panel costs, potential support and the roof and system choices that affect a solar PV project.

Indicative costs
HomePlanIQ uses seai completed energy-upgrade cost data for this guide, covering January to December 2025. Where a stored median is available, the displayed range applies the existing HomePlanIQ planning spread. These figures are planning information, not quotations or guarantees.
SEAI published completed-project median cost. System size, battery storage, roof layout and equipment specification can materially change the final price.
Current SEAI grant position
The Solar Electricity Grant is a potential Individual Grant for qualifying homes. The existing HomePlanIQ grant record describes support of €700 per kWp for the first 2 kWp and €200 per kWp for the next 2 kWp, capped at €1,800.
That is a potential maximum under the stored schedule, not a guaranteed payment. Eligibility, system requirements and application rules apply. Confirm the current position with the official SEAI solar-electricity information.
System size and roof conditions
Solar PV output depends on the selected kWp size, available roof area, orientation, pitch, shading and the condition of the roof. A larger system is not automatically better if the roof cannot accommodate it or household electricity use does not match the generation profile.
Installers also need to consider the inverter, cable route, consumer unit, grid connection requirements and safe access. A battery can be considered separately, but it is not included as a separate HomePlanIQ cost or grant measure here.
Why savings and payback vary
Generation and financial outcomes depend on when electricity is used, the system design, shading, export arrangements, tariffs and future energy prices. This guide does not promise a saving or payback period. A quotation should explain the proposed system and assumptions.
Solar PV can be planned alongside insulation, a heat pump or other work. Use the upgrade guides hub to consider the wider project.
